Born in LA and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Jillian knows what it means to struggle. In spite of the challenges she has had to overcome as a first-generation college student, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a focus in Mathematics from the University of Illinois @ Urbana-Champaign. While there, Jillian developed a passion for working with youth as a tutor and mentor through the Boys and Girls Club. She later applied for and was accepted into the 2007 Teach for America corps where she taught third grade and earned a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UNLV.
Excited about the impact she was able to make, she returned back to Chicago with hopes of teaching in the community from whence she came. Upon her return, she accepted a position with the Noble Network Charter School as a Founding 9th Grade Algebra Teacher. While at Noble, she spent five years teaching 9th and 11th grade math, served as a teacher leader in several capacities, and also served as a Dean. From there, Jillian led as the Assistant Director at the University of Chicago Charter School where she helped secure a $280,000 grant from LEAP Innovations to reimagine, redesign, and personalize learning for her students. She went on to become a Director at a K-8 school where she was awarded a $250,000 grant through The Accelerate Institute as she and her team worked to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline by creating a pathway to college for all kids.
An advocate of living a life of freedom and liberation, Jillian’s passion began with ensuring every child has access to a high-quality education and ends with equity for all. After spending more than a decade teaching and leading in schools across the PreK-12 continuum, she launched a consulting firm – InnerG Unlmtd, LLC where she serves as a certified life coach, consultant, and motivational speaker.
Through both her trials and triumphs, she has learned how to turn her lack of confidence and feelings of inadequacy into vulnerability and transparency - both of which has led her to live a life of liberation. With God and consistent therapy, she is on a never-ending journey of self-discovery. She is learning who she is and whose she is. Those things may change over time, but what won’t change is her belief that she has everything within her to be great. Because she's learned the power of being human while living in her greatness, it is her desire to support others navigate life; to help them realize how great they are...already!
